About The Irish Quilter

I'm Christine and I'm a quilter, quilt pattern designer and quilt teacher based in Co. Clare in Ireland. I'm also just a little bit addicted to beautiful fabrics, but that's a whole other conversation! I deliver quilting workshops and courses to quilters of all abilities and I consider myself beyond lucky to spread my love of all things quilting to others. I literally sew each stitch that I sew with love and care, so when I see my students creating quilts that go on to bring love and joy to those lucky enough to end up wrapped in them...it fills my heart with joy!

In my former life I was the Operations Manager of a large call centre delivering customer service for various companies. Not very quilty at all unfortunately. I have been a foster carer for almost 20 years and it was through fostering that I accidentally discovered my great passion for quilting. I initially learnt to sew so that I could help a little girl who was in my care to sew.  She grew up and still loves fabric and quilting and I became obsessed with it! Seeing and feeling the impact it has made to our lives over the years was life changing. Some children loved to learn to sew and some were more interested in other things....but every child without exception treasured the quilt that was made for them. I was gifting them love in the form of a quilt, and they seemed to know that.

I did as many courses as I could, covering many different aspects of quilting, here in Ireland, in the UK and Europe, and then with the advent of Covid, online. I have reaped the benefit of having had so many wonderful women generously share their knowledge with me so that i can hone my craft, make beautiful things and go on to share my knowledge with others.
I have been very fortunate that many of the skills from my former career were around presenting and training and I have found them to be very transferable to my quilting life. Even as a foster carer, I delivered many training courses for the new foster carers coming onboard for our region. Teaching children that I have fostered with various abilities and sometimes special needs also honed my skills as a teacher. My favourite review to date actually came from a child when I was told that I really was a very good explainer! Now that was a great day!
Happy quilting, my quilty friends. I look forward to quilting with you.
